THE STIRLING HOTEL

Yesterday Steve and I journeyed to one of New Jersey’s finest craft beer destinations – the Stirling Hotel. Located in Long Hill, the former town inn has been home to this family style tavern since the early eighties, offering great food and drink along with a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.  Beer geeks, restaurant management, and local brewers alike have been talking this place up; needless to say we were eager to take this trip to a historical jersey monument to grab a bite and check out their awesome beer selection.

Although there were no swinging cafe doors, I felt like I was entering a saloon during the days of the pioneering west.

Lots of authentic early 19th century American antiques adorn the walls – check out this impressive collection of classic railroad lanterns.

We got a kick out of this awesome rail road clock from Dodge City.

Even the chandeliers were made of old wagon wheels.

If the bar isn’t your thing, The Stirling Hotel has an ample amount of tables throughout the building for indoor dining.

We were also shown a classy outdoor patio, with a six tap Tiki bar allowing patrons to take in the nice weather of the spring and summer.

The Stirling Hotel has a ten tap tower, and is rotating beers off every couple of days. Dan and Danny informed me of a tap expansion later this year so stay tuned.

For starters I opted for the Harpoon Black IPA. I had been hearing a lot about this brew and was more than impressed. Definitely one of the best Black IPA’s out there – hats off to Matt DeLuca on this one.

You can’t go to an establishment without trying their food. A round of coconut shrimp and some jalapeno poppers were found to be quite delicious.

Their burgers are amazing as well. Have it any way you want or try one of their special burgers. Steve opted for the Southwest Stuffed variety, which had hot peppers, mushrooms, and chili flakes mixed into the patty itself – truly a divine experience for any lover of meat. The beef comes from a local butcher right down the road.

For beer number two, I went for the drinkable and smooth Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale.

The Stirling Hotel is a very unique spot and a must visit for any craft beer drinker. They have an awesome atmosphere, incredible food, and a great selection of beer. I would like to thank Tom and Dori Baldassarre for being the care takers of this place, preserving its history and giving old and new patrons alike a place to congregate and have great time. I would also like to thank Dan, Danny, and Dustin for taking care of us and shooting the breeze. We had a great time and can’t wait to come back. Check out The Stirling Hotel on facebook for news on their current draft list as well up coming events.
