Blue Dog Tavern, Chalfont PA — “Wealth of Riches”
Here in Pennsylvania, we have a lot to be thankful for in regards to beer. One occurence that stands out most to me is the annual "Wealth of Riches" event held at the Blue Dog Tavern in Chalfont, PA. An event full of great people, great food and of course great beers! The pay-as-you-go event is handled fantastically by the owners every year, as they somehow manage to please each and every customer.
The doors opened at 11 am and around 10 of us piled in to sit down for what turned out to be another wonderful wealth of riches. We all started out with some fresh as it gets Ballast Point "Sculpin" IPA, with one person opting for a 2010 Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout.
The KBS '10...dark as night, and one of the best of the day.
Among many ultra fresh IPA's and dark stouts, the Blue Dog also offered a fantastic Cantillon Kriek 100% Lambic on draft! The beer was a beautiful ruby in color with a fizzy pink head. Incredibly tart and refreshing, even that early in the morning.
With so many beers to try (the list was the front and back of a piece of paper...) it seemed the best option was to get a flight. I chose a De Struise Pannepot Quad, a Founders Devil Dancer triple IPA (One of the hoppiest beers you will ever try while it's fresh), a Russian River Pliny the Elder and a 2009 Founders Backwoods Bastard. Didn't regret a single choice.
As the beers kept flowing, the appetites got to growing. The Blue Dog never lets down with great pub food and proper service. We enjoyed some cheese fries with melted white cheddar...none of that glowing orange cheese. We also grabbed some Chicken quesadillas and a mounding plate of nachos that no single man could take down.
One thing that made the event run so smooth was the employment of two of the Blue Dogs best bartenders: Courtney and Kevin, who handled the event flawlessly. I didn't notice a single complaint from any side of the bar and your beer arrived, poured properly in record time. Great service!
Can't really say enough about this great event, everything went as smooth as previous years and I highly recommend checking this event if you are in PA, or even feel like traveling out of state. The owner was even as graceful as to share a 2009 Goose Island Bourbon County Stout with a few of us, one of the most outstanding beers I've ever had. All in all, a perfect beer day for us all.

Thanks for the post, Bill! Although, you’re forgetting they had my favorite beer on tap. Blushing Monk for a blushing lady
