With a release perfectly planned for February 17th, in the middle of SF's Beer Week, Â Brekle's Brown, will be just in time to celebrate Anchor Brewing's 140th Anniversary. This brew will commemorate Anchor's original brewmaster; German immigrant, Gottlieb Brekle. Brekle arrived to the San Fransisco area in 1854, applied for citizenship, and was soon owner of a small brewery that would eventually become the Anchor Brewing we know today. Check out Anchor's website for the interesting history of the brewery.
Brekle's Brown is a single hopped, all malt, brown ale. Unfortunately, at least for those of us not in the Bay Area, this will be a limited release draft only offering. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of limited draft-only beers, but I think Anchor should break their current lineup of brews with a couple new offerings. According to their website, their last "recently released"  offering in bottles was their "Humming Ale" in 2009. According to Beernews.org, a brewery rep stated "there will only be a total of 420 kegs."
So if your in the Bay Area, throw one back for us and let us know what you think. Also, be sure to check out SF Beer Week, February 11th-20th.
