Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey have finally arrived. Adam and I took a spin to our local watering hole, Mohawk House to check out the latest West Coast brews to hit the Garden State.Â
Steve started off slow, serving just a few of the brews yesterday. All the descriptions had me eager to sample them all.
Both breweries have their own flair that is well represented by their tap handles. A sandal for the traditional American craft brews of Port Brewing and a cross for the Belgian style brews from The Lost Abbey.
Being the hop heads we are, it was only proper we start with a fresh pint of Wipeout. A pleasant, balanced IPA that was full of hop flavor, yet not overwhelming making for a pretty session-able beer.
As you can tell, Steve is stocked up for a very important kick-off event next Thursday featuring plenty of beers from both Port & The Lost Abbey.
The Lost Abbey Avant Garde is so good. A very smooth and enjoyable example of what may be called a Biere De Garde. It's loaded with crisp biscuit flavors and a touch of sweet caramel that plays well with the yeast.
We look forward to all that Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey have to offer. Please check out Hunterdon's website to find out where you can pick some up. Your favorite local beer bars including: Mohawk House, Cloverleaf Tavern and Twin Light Tap House have them flowing as we speak. If thats not enough, Brewmaster and Co-founder Tomme Arthur will be visiting select beer bars for Port Brewing and Lost Abbey events next week. Details below.
