There are a lot of collaborations beers out these days. More and more breweries are getting together to craft some amazing, rare and one off brews. One that comes to mind this year is Reunion Ale '11 that comes from Terrapin and Schmaltz. Reunion Ale is brewed each year in memory of Virginia MacLean who lost her battle with Multiple Myeloma in 2007. She was a dear friend and close partner to Terrapin in this project and it was her wish that Terrapin continue to brew Reunion Ale to raise funds and awareness for Myeloma & Bone Cancer Research.
Inspired by one of Virginia's favorite desserts, Reunion Ale '11 is brewed with three main ingridients; vanilla, cocoa nibs and chili peppers. I had no idea how these flavors would mix with one another but they blend real nice together without  being to overwhelming. The vanilla and cocoa blend with the malts to give this brown ale a bit of sweetness with a little spice and heat from the chili peppers. An interesting beer for a good cause, I am happy I picked this one up and contribute to a worthy cause. More information on Myeloma can be found at www.imbcr.org. Cheers!
