Brewery – Troegs Craft Brewery
Troegs has been on my radar for quite some time now and long overdue for a visit. Troegs is one of the first breweries that opened my mind to the world of craft beer, the result of which drives what I am doing today with this website. Last Wednesday, Steve and I headed westward towards Hershey PA to check out the new Troegs facility, sample some great beers, and nurture hopes of drinking Nugget Nectar from the fermenter.
Brewery – Yards Brewing Company
I took a little trip down to Philly yesterday with my buddy Mark to check out Yards Brewing Company. Yards has been serving up craft beer for the drinkers of Philadelphia and its surrounding markets for over a decade. An avid beer lover, owner Tom Kehoe started brewing in college with his good friend, Jon Bovit. After eventually getting a job in the early 90's at a small English-style brewery in Maryland, Tom and Jon decided they could go on their own and start their own brewery. After dumping all they had into the business and moving locations several times, Yards finally settled in the Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia, where Tom and his brewers continue to turn out some awesome brews. We spent a few hours with Tom talking about Yards, the beer industry, and of course sampling some of Philly's finest beer.
Brewery – Kane Brewing Company
It seems that every bar you go to these days has at least one or two craft brews available. I for one am noticing the growing craft beer trend here in New Jersey, ranging from the sprawl of the urban cities to hills of Sussex, and with this I am seeing an increasing demand for fresh local beers. We have had a few new breweries pop up this year in the Garden State and I hear there are a few more on the way. Kane Brewing Company is one of more recent additions to the fold (having opened their doors this past summer) yet are rapidly gaining a sizable fan base amongst the craft beer drinkers of Jersey. Michael Kane had us out for the day to sample some brews and show us one of New Jersey's newest breweries.
Brewery – River Horse Brewing Company
Here is some beer content long overdue. Brian and I finally bumbled our way down to Lambertville, NJ, so as to tour the esteemed River Horse Brewery. I've been pestering Brian about this trip, having been engaged in a sordid affair with their Tripel Horse for quite a while now. I couldn't be happier with the result - an afternoon spent in the company of some of New Jersey's finest beer crafters, who were more than happy to share their enthusiasm and knowledge with us. If I come off as like some shameless fan-boy, well... if it quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck, it's probably a mallard.
Brewery – Boxcar Brewing
I stopped by one of the other local breweries in the area the night before my chaotic day at Victory last week. Boxcar Brewing is a small brewery located in West Chester Pennsylvania, and they are distributed around Eastern PA and Philadelphia. Brewing straightforward beer, they have three staples: Original Ale, Brown Ale and an India Pale Ale. I chatted with one of the owners, Jason Kohser, for a little while about the beer they brew and the future plans for Boxcar.
Brewery – Carton Brewing, Atlantic Highlands NJ
New Jersey's Atlantic Highlands is home to one of the Garden State's freshest production breweries - Carton Brewing. Situated just a few blocks inland of the Sandy Hook Bay in an unmarked and repurposed 100+ year old red brick building, these guys are churning out signature beers. They are driven by a passion for quality food & drink, an enthusiasm that translates throughout their beer.
A Great Time at Amicas in Salida, CO
Last weekend I was hanging out in Leadville, CO. Leadville’s a cool town, but is currently lacking a brewery. I knew of a place called Amicas Pizza and Microbrewery in Salida, only an hour south. I’d been there once before and remembered liking the beer a lot so I wanted to go back for a tour.
