FLOUNDER BREWING COMPANY

Flounder Brewing 21
It is a great day to be a beer drinker in New Jersey. We have some solid beer makers spread out all over the state ranging from big to small with everyone turning out their own little projects and giving us drinkers something to brag about from the Garden State. One of the newer breweries is a little nano in somerset county by the name of Flounder Brewing Company. Started a little over a year ago, Jeremy Flounder has perfected a home brew recipe that he has been making for about 10 years and is now sharing with those that think and drink local.

On a recent project with Garden State Brew Fest, we spent some time filming with Jeremy and got a real feel for what he is doing and why he started Flounder. He has a real passion for craft beer and almost everything tacked to the wall at his small nano has a story from his travels as a beer drinker and enthusiast.

Jeremy was readying a batch of Hill Street Honey Ale. A low gravity blonde ale brewed with Jersey honey and the original Ballantine ale yeast strain.

The brewery may be small but the this scale allows Jeremy to be meticulous with his process and ultimately turning out a fantastic beer.

The tasting room has a nice feel to it. Just like the brewing system, it is on the small side but Jeremy does a great business out of here once or twice a month with his tours and tastings.

It’s always nice to see a brewer or brewery in the news.

Flounder Brewing 26He even has has some brewing notes on a wall by the bar. A nice little touch and a neat way to keep track of things.

Although Flounder is new, they have already won a peoples choice award at the recent Big Brew Fest this past winter.

Beyond the trophy I couldn’t help but to notice the progression of his labels for Hill Street Honey. It had some cool ones as a home brew, especially the street sign signifying where they beer was originally conceived.

Flounder Brewing 6This is the first small scale brewery that we have visited here in NJ and certainly not the last. Some say they are just home brewing for their community but it is much more than that. These nano’s are turning out fresh craft beer just like the big guys and giving us all something to look forward too. Thanks to Jeremy for spending time with us, it was a blast hanging out and we most certainly look forward to many more beers from Flounder Brewing in the future.
