STATION TAP ROOM

Despite having an exuberant amount of chili at Victory the I Drink Good Beer posse was still hungry and I had this great thought stuck in my head thanks to one of the judges I was on the panel with. He spoke of this quaint little spot across from the Downingtown train station that had amazingly fresh food and a stellar beer list that is constantly rotating. To me that sounding like a wonderful way to end our day with a nice meal, good brew and some fresh content for you. Station Taproom opened in 2010 by owner Sean McGettigan with an idea to serve spectacularly fresh food and a nice list of craft beer.

Station Taproom isn’t some huge restaurant but rather a nice quiet place where you and friend can have a pint and conversation without shouting over one another.

With a little something for everyone there is 12 rotating taps ranging from east coast beers like Allagash and Sly Fox to other American craft like Sierra Nevada, Bells and Half Acre. If you would like something from a hand pump don’t fret, Station Taproom always has something on cask.

With Half Acre not available in New Jersey  and recently having a can, it was a no brainer to get a pint of Daisy Cutter.

Moving on to the real reason for our trip here, FOOD. Sean has made sure that the finest food is served at his establishment. With Chef Tim Smith using local purveyors and fresh ingredients Station Taproom has a great menu with a wide range of dishes. We all got something awesome to eat and I would feel guilty if I didn’t share all the dishes with you. I went for the pastrami panini made with Wyerbrook Farms pastrami, Russian dressing, cole slaw and swiss cheese served with hand cut fries.

My cousin Andy went for the chicken and mozzarella panini with bacon, fresh mozzarella, tomato and dijonaise served with hand cut fries.

Adam went for the duck confit tacos shredded duck leg confit, red cabbage, cilantro and salsa verde on soft corn tortillas with a spicy black bean and corn salad

While his wife Megan had the Thai Red Curry served bell peppers, zucchini, asparagus and mushrooms, served over basmati rice with housemade naan.
I am pretty sure I found my new favorite watering hole when I visit the family in Pennsylvania. The food, beer and atmosphere at Station Taproom are everything I could every want in a bar. I am jealous of every person that has the option for a pint here when they get off the train at the Downingtown station. If you are in the area, love food and craft beer, you owe it to you and your palate to check this place out.
